UPDATE: August 2016

Saturday 1st July 2017

The work has begun on Phase two. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the funding of this very important phase. The works are scheduled to be completed around December 2017, when the Church will be open again during the day.

UPDATE JULY 2015
The work on the roof is going very well and we hope to have it completed by September. As a result of the work being carried out the congregation are moving back in for the Summer! Thank you for all your support so far.

The work has started on St Thomas thanks to a number of very generous donations from the local community of over £20,000 as well as some substantial donations from the Heritage Lottery Fund (£198,000), National Churches Trust (£50,000) and Devon Historic Church (£3,000)

The Rev Nick Edwards, team rector of St Thomas was quoted in the local paper saying: "We have had a huge response from the local community, both in terms of donations and good will. Although we are worshipping at St Andrew's at the moment we have a commitment to the local community and its heritage so we want to continue to have a place of worship that has this history, so we are aiming to move back. Our main priority is what we do as a Church, providing pastoral and spiritual care for people who live in the area." To complete all phases of the work will cost in the region of £2m so the fundraising continues. We will be hosting an exhibition in July. We have asked all the children in the local schools to take a picture, draw a picture or write about the St Thomas area. We are going to be displaying these in the Church for anyone to come in and view.

Although the work has begun we still need to raise a significant amount of money to complete the project of restoring a beautiful building in the heart of St Thomas. If you would like to donate towards the project then please contact Philip Baker c/o St Thomas Church Hall, Church Road, Exeter EX2 9BQ or ring 01392 437486.
